Viewing FAQ
Before the opening scene
A few practical answers, so curiosity has fewer obstacles to get past.
What counts as an independent film?
The term often refers to production outside major studio structures, but financing and distribution can overlap. We use it as a discovery guide, not a guarantee of one budget, style or ownership model.
Are your recommendations spoiler-free?
We describe the premise, tone and craft without revealing endings or late plot turns. Even premise information can feel revealing; read only the viewing-fit notes if you prefer to know very little.
Where can I legally watch a film?
Check the official distributor or film website, local cinema listings, library services and legal availability search tools. Rights and catalogues change by country and date; we do not guarantee a particular platform.
Do independent films always move slowly?
No. Independent cinema includes energetic comedies, tense thrillers and brisk character studies as well as meditative work. Our mood lists separate viewing energy from production labels.
How can I get more comfortable with subtitles?
Start with a film whose premise interests you, use a readable subtitle size where available and give yourself a few minutes to adjust. Subtitle, caption and audio-description options vary by release.
Does a festival award mean I will like a film?
No. Awards reflect a particular jury, programme and moment. Use them to discover titles, then consider the film’s tone, pacing and subject rather than treating a laurel as a personal guarantee.
Are these films suitable for children?
Not necessarily. Check the local age classification and detailed content advice for each release. Our notes are selective and are not a substitute for a complete parental or accessibility guide.
Do you accept paid placement or affiliate commissions?
This site does not currently sell recommendation placement or use affiliate links. Picks are editorial opinions, not paid ranking positions. Any future commercial relationship should be clearly disclosed where relevant.
Can I suggest a film or report an error?
Yes. Use the contact page to prepare a recommendation or email [email protected]. Include the title, director and a reliable source for factual corrections. The message composer does not send messages automatically.
